What stays on your machine

Everything to do with your documents:

• The PDF you open and the rendered pages.
• The extracted text and the generated explanations.
• The audio files of the voice.
• Your progress: which slide you left off on, with which voice and which level.
• Your interface preferences, stored in the local browser.

None of that leaves your disk. All of it is deleted when you remove the document from the application.

Why we couldn't see it even if we wanted to

The model that writes the explanations and the one that synthesises the voice run locally, on your processor. There is no call to an API of ours or of a third party anywhere in the path of generating an explanation. Filmina works with the computer disconnected from the internet.

What does leave your machine

Three things, and none of them includes your documents:

• Downloading and installing the application and the models, the first time.
• Licence validation: your licence key and a machine identifier are sent, in order to count how many installs you have active. You can review it whenever you like and unlink a machine.
• The update check, which asks whether there is a newer version. It can be turned off.

Payments

Payment is processed by an external provider. We receive your email address, the country for tax purposes and the payment status. We do not receive or store your card details, which stay with the processor.

For the student licence we store the domain of the institutional email you validated with, not the content of any communication.

Metrics

The application includes no usage analytics: we don't measure which documents you open, how much you listen to or which features you use. The website uses aggregate visit metrics, with no tracking cookies and no individual profiles.

Minors

Filmina is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from people of that age.

Your rights

You can ask us for access to, correction of or deletion of the data in your licence account by writing to getfilmina@gmail.com. We cannot delete your document data for you, because we don't have it: it is deleted from the application.

Changes

If this policy changes, you will see it in the date above and we will let you know by email if it affects something you have already bought.
