1. What Filmina is

Filmina opens a PDF or a slide deck, writes an explanation of each slide with a language model, reads it aloud and asks you a question at the end. The three models that do that work run on your Mac: there is no account to create and no server of ours in between. Exactly what it does, and what it doesn't, is in the docs; here are the conditions.

2. The free version

You can use Filmina without paying, without a card and without an account. The free version opens the first 10 documents and, from each one, the first 100 slides, with every feature. The document count doesn't go down when you delete one, and reopening the same file doesn't use up another.

We may change those limits for future installs. That doesn't affect any licence already bought.

3. What you are buying

You are buying a perpetual personal licence to use Filmina, with a single payment. It is not a subscription: it doesn't renew, it doesn't expire and the app keeps working even if you never pay again.

The licence is for one Mac: yours. If you change computers, the same key works on the new one; what you can't do is keep it active on several at once, lend it, publish it or share it. It is personal and non-transferable.

The key arrives at the email you gave when buying and is checked on your Mac, without calling any server. Keep that email: it is your receipt. If you lose the key, write to us from the same address and we will send it again.

The price is the one the page shows at the moment of purchase, in the currency it shows, and it may depend on the country you are buying from. The launch discount lasts as long as the pricing card says. Payment is processed by Stripe.

4. The student licence

It is exactly the same licence, at half price, for people who study. To buy it you have to verify a university email with a six-digit code we send there. Once bought, it doesn't expire when you graduate.

The check looks at the email domain, so some universities with their own domain fall outside the rule; in that case write to us and we sort it out by hand. Buying it with an email that isn't yours, or that you have no right to use, is a breach of these terms.

5. Updates

The licence includes every update to version 1: fixes, improvements, new voices and new models. The app looks for new versions on its own and lets you know; you install them whenever you want.

If one day we publish a major version, a rewrite rather than a patch, it will be an optional update with its own price. The version you already have keeps working. It may also happen that at some point we stop publishing updates for version 1; the app you have installed doesn't stop working because of that.

The models that explain, speak and listen are published by third parties and are downloaded from their servers the first time. Once downloaded they stay on your disk and depend on nobody; the initial download does depend on those servers staying available. If one of them went away, we would do what is reasonable to offer an alternative.

6. Refunds

If Filmina isn't for you, write to us within 30 days of the purchase at getfilmina@gmail.com, from the email you bought with, and we refund the full amount to the same payment method you used. You don't have to explain why. The refund is made by Stripe and usually shows up in your account within five to ten business days, depending on your bank.

Once the money is refunded the licence is no longer valid and you agree to stop using the key. We can't deactivate it remotely, and we don't want to be able to: the app works offline on purpose.

Withdrawal button

If you bought from Argentina, the law gives you 10 calendar days from the purchase to revoke it at no cost, and our 30 days include it. To request it, write to getfilmina@gmail.com with the subject "Withdrawal" and we reply within 24 hours with the confirmation and its number. If you buy from the European Union or the United Kingdom you have 14 days to withdraw, also included in the 30.

7. What it generates is yours

The explanations, the questions and the audio that Filmina produces on your Mac are yours. We claim no rights over them, and we don't see them either.

The documents you open are your responsibility: you must have the right to use them. Studying with your course's slides is the use Filmina exists for; what you do with the output beyond your personal study depends on the rights of the original material. Filmina doesn't verify ownership of anything.

8. What you cannot do

• Resell, rent, lend or redistribute the application or your key, or publish it.
• Circumvent the free version's limit or the key check, forge keys or distribute tools for doing so.
• Use Filmina with material you have no right to use, or for an illegal purpose.
• Use the site in an automated or abusive way: requesting codes, voting or joining the waiting list with scripts, or entering other people's data.

If you breach these terms we may refuse support and refunds and, in serious cases, terminate the licence.

9. What it does and its limits

Filmina generates explanations with a language model. It can get things wrong. It does not replace your study material, the lecture or your own judgement, and it should not be used as the only source where a mistake has serious consequences. In particular:

• Code checks that no part of the slide is left unexplained, but checking that everything is there is not checking that it is right.
• The extended level adds examples and context that aren't on the slide, and says so.
• It does not interpret images, diagrams or charts: it marks them as a figure and tells you to look at them.
• With scanned PDFs that have no text layer, it tells you instead of making things up.
• The questions at the end are generated by the same model, and the one who decides whether your answer was right is you, not the program.

10. Requirements and operation

Filmina runs on Macs with Apple Silicon and macOS 13 or later, and needs about 10 GB of disk for the model that explains. Speed depends on your Mac. Everything it generates is stored on your disk: deleting a document from the app deletes all of it, with no undo, and backing up your Mac is up to you.

11. Third-party components

Filmina relies on open-source software and on models published by third parties, each under its own licence: the Ollama engine and the Qwen 2.5 model (Alibaba Cloud) to explain, Kokoro for the voice, Whisper (OpenAI) to listen to you and PyMuPDF to read the PDFs, among others. Those licences govern those components and can be read on each author's site. If you have LibreOffice installed, Filmina uses it to convert slide decks; it doesn't ship with the app.

12. Intellectual property

The application, the site, the Filmina name, the brand and the character Mina are ours. The licence gives you the right to use the app, not to copy it, modify it or make derivative works, except where the law expressly allows it.

13. Warranty and liability

Filmina is provided "as is". We do what is reasonable to make it work well, but we do not warrant that it is free of errors or fit for a particular purpose. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to Filmina is limited to what you paid for the licence.

None of this cuts back the rights you have as a consumer in your country that the law doesn't allow you to waive, including the legal guarantee and any refunds you are entitled to.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms; the date above says when we last did. Changes apply to purchases made after they are published. The terms in force when you bought continue to apply to your licence, unless a change gives you more rights or the law requires it, in which case we let you know at the email you bought with.

15. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic, with jurisdiction in the ordinary courts of the City of Buenos Aires, without prejudice to the rights you have as a consumer in your country of residence and to complaining to your local consumer authority. Before any formal complaint, write to us: almost everything is solved with one email.
