Everything happens on your Mac
Filmina has no server. The three models that do the work are installed on your machine and work against your own processor: there is nobody on the other end who could see your notes, because there is no other end.
What runs here
- The one that explains. The language model that reads each slide and writes the explanation and the questions. It runs on an engine that ships inside the app, on a private port: there is nothing to install separately.
- The one that speaks. Kokoro, which synthesizes the voice against the GPU.
- The one that listens. Whisper, for when you tell the slide back in your own words. It is the only optional one of the three.
What does not leave your machine
- The PDF or deck you uploaded.
- The explanations, the questions and the audio that were generated.
- What you say out loud when you tell a slide back.
- What you marked as not understood and where you are in each document.
There is no account to create, so there is no email, no password and no profile: none of that exists because there is nowhere to keep it.
When it uses the internet
Three times, and none of them while you are studying:
- When downloading the app and, the first time it opens, when downloading the models. That is the only thing you have to wait for; from then on it works offline.
- When buying, which happens on this site and not in the app. The key that arrives by email is checked offline afterwards: it comes signed, and activating it means redoing the signature on your Mac.
- If you write to us. There is a form in settings to tell us what is missing or what is broken. What you type there is what goes out, nothing else, and only if you send it.
