Terms and conditions
Filmina is an AI study tool you use in your browser, at app.getfilmina.com: you upload your class slides and Mina explains them out loud, answers what you ask and makes you practise. These terms cover the app, your account and the getfilmina.com website, and you accept them when you create your account or use Filmina. They're written for students, to be read in full in five minutes; if anything is unclear, write to us.
1. What Filmina is
Filmina opens your presentations (PDF, PowerPoint, Keynote or OpenDocument) and your course material, and uses a language model to write an explanation of each slide, read it to you out loud, answer your questions, build summaries and make you practise. That work happens in the cloud, on our servers and on those of the providers listed in the privacy policy: that's why Filmina needs an account and an internet connection.
2. Your account
You sign in with your email and a six-digit code we send you each time, which expires after 15 minutes: there are no passwords. The account is personal, so don't share it, and you're responsible for what's done with it: keep your email safe. Each plan allows a limited number of devices signed in at the same time; you can see and sign them out from Settings.
You must be at least 13 to use Filmina. If you're under 18, you need permission from a parent or guardian, and that person has to make or authorise any Filmina Pro purchase.
3. The plans: Free and Pro
Free needs no card and has usage limits: how many minutes of explanation, how many documents, how many questions and how many practice sessions, among others. Pro is paid, raises those limits and adds features. What each plan includes and its current limits are the ones the app shows. The limits are there so the service is enough for everyone and to stop abuse; when you hit one, the app tells you.
You can get Pro in one of two ways:
- Monthly. You're charged when you subscribe and it then renews automatically every month, with the same payment method, until you cancel it.
- Semester pass, if you pay in US dollars. A single payment that covers four months and does not renew: when it ends, your account goes back to Free unless you buy again.
The price is the one the checkout screen shows before you confirm, in its currency. If we change the monthly price, we'll email you before the renewal it applies to, and you can cancel before then at no cost. If we change what a plan includes, what you already paid for is kept until the end of the paid period.
4. Who charges you
Payment is handled by a third party, depending on where you pay from, and we never see or store your card details:
- From Argentina, in pesos: Mercado Pago. The monthly plan shows up as a subscription in your Mercado Pago account.
- From anywhere else, in US dollars: Stripe.
On your card statement the charge shows as FILMINA. The receipt for each charge comes from the payment provider; you'll find it under Settings › Subscription › Payment method and invoices, where you can also change your payment method.
5. Cancellation button
You can cancel the monthly plan whenever you like, at no cost and without giving reasons, in two ways:
- In the app, under Settings › Subscription › Cancel subscription › Cancel.
- Without signing in, from the Cancellation button, in the footer of every page of this website: you type your account's email, we send you a six-digit code to confirm it's you and the cancellation happens right away.
Either way, we show you a request code on screen and email it to you right away.
After you cancel, you won't be charged again. What you already paid isn't lost: you keep Pro until the end of the paid period and then your account goes back to Free, with your classes and notes intact. Cancelling doesn't refund the rest of the month; that's what the withdrawal button in the next section is for. The semester pass doesn't renew, so there's nothing to cancel: it just ends.
If neither works for you, write to info@getfilmina.com from your account's email address, with the subject "Cancel", and we'll do it for you: within 24 hours we'll reply with the request code.
6. Withdrawal button
If you bought Pro and changed your mind, you can withdraw from the purchase within 10 calendar days of making it, at no cost and without giving reasons (Argentine Law 24,240, art. 34, and Civil and Commercial Code, art. 1110). If you paid in US dollars, the period is 14 calendar days.
How to ask for it: in Settings › Subscription › Withdraw from contract, tap Email us and a pre-written email to info@getfilmina.com opens. You can also write to that address directly, from your account's email, with the subject "Withdraw from contract": you don't need to sign in.
Within 24 hours we reply with a request code. We refund everything you paid, to the same payment method, and Pro ends at that moment. We issue the refund through Mercado Pago or Stripe; how long it takes to show up on your card or account depends on them and on your bank.
7. Deleting your account
Go to Settings, at the very bottom, Delete account. To confirm, we ask you to type the account's email. Your account and everything you saved in Filmina (your classes, notes, transcripts, summaries, practice and progress) are deleted, all your sessions are signed out and you get a request code. It can't be undone.
If you had the monthly plan, it's cancelled immediately and the rest of the period is lost: if you're still within the withdrawal period, ask for it before deleting your account. What we keep anyway, and why, is in the privacy policy.
8. What you can't do
- Use Filmina with material you have no right to use, or for an illegal purpose.
- Upload content that is illegal, infringes other people's rights or carries malicious code.
- Share your account, resell access or try to get around your plan's limits.
- Use Filmina in an automated or abusive way (scripts, scraping, bulk uploads), or try to access accounts, data or parts of the system that aren't yours.
- Copy, modify or redistribute the app or the website, or reverse-engineer them, except as the law expressly allows.
If you break these terms we may limit or suspend your account and, in serious or repeated cases, close it. Unless it's urgent or the law prevents it, we'll email you first and give you a chance to explain.
9. Your content is yours
What you upload (your presentations, notes, photos, audio and links) and what Filmina generates for you (explanations, audio, answers, summaries, notes, transcripts and practice) is yours. We claim no rights over it.
For the service to work, you give us a limited, non-exclusive, free licence to store, copy, convert and process that content, and to send it to the providers that do the work, for one purpose only: providing the service to you. The licence ends when you delete that content or your account. We don't use your documents to train artificial intelligence models and we don't show them to anyone.
The documents you upload are your responsibility: you must have the right to use them. Studying with your course's slides is what Filmina exists for; what you do with the output beyond your personal study depends on the rights in the original material. Filmina doesn't check who owns anything.
10. AI can make mistakes
Mina introduces herself as your teacher, but she's an AI study tool: she can make mistakes, make up a fact or add context that isn't in your material. She doesn't replace your teachers, the class, the reading list or your own judgement, and shouldn't be your only source where a mistake could have serious consequences. In particular:
- Explanations, answers and summaries are written by a language model. Automatic checks look for made-up facts and repetition, but they don't catch everything.
- Practice questions and the feedback on your answers are there to show you what's missing: you decide whether you understood, not the program.
- Reading scanned slides, photos, audio and subtitles can have recognition errors, and the synthetic voice can mispronounce a term, an acronym or a formula.
11. Availability and changes to the service
We do what's reasonable to keep Filmina available and working well, but it depends on the internet and on outside providers, and it can have outages, delays or errors. We may change, improve or remove features. If we shut Filmina down, or close your account without you having broken these terms, we'll give you notice in advance and refund the part of the paid period you didn't get to use.
12. The Mac app you already have
Until October 2026, Filmina was a Mac app that explained PDFs with models running on the computer. We don't sell it and won't add features to it. If you have it installed, it keeps working as before and under the terms you downloaded it with: it's free, what you study in it stays on your Mac, and the third-party components it uses (Ollama, Qwen 2.5, Kokoro, Whisper and PyMuPDF, among others) keep their own licences. What data it still sends to the website is in the privacy policy.
13. Intellectual property
The app, the website, the Filmina name, the brand and the Mina character are ours. Using Filmina gives you no rights over them beyond using the service under these terms.
14. Warranty and liability
Filmina is provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, we're not liable for indirect damages or for decisions you make based on what the AI generates, and our total liability for any claim related to Filmina is limited to what you paid us in the last twelve months.
None of this limits the consumer rights you can't waive under the law, starting with those of Argentina's Consumer Protection Law 24,240 and those of your own country.
15. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms; the date at the top says when we last did. If the change is significant, we'll tell you by email or in the app before it takes effect, and if you don't agree you can cancel or delete your account. A change never takes away what you already paid for.
16. Governing law and jurisdiction
These terms are governed by the laws of the Argentine Republic. As a consumer, you can bring a claim before the courts where you live and before your consumer protection authority; for everything else, the ordinary courts of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires have jurisdiction. Before any formal claim, write to us: almost everything gets solved with an email.
17. Contact
Filmina is based in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, Argentina. For any question, to cancel or to withdraw: info@getfilmina.com. What data we handle and with whom is in the privacy policy.
