Documents
A PDF goes in, or a deck that gets converted to PDF before it opens. What Filmina needs is not the loose text: it is the drawn page, because the frame that travels across it has to know where each block falls.
The formats
- PDF. Goes in as is.
- .pptx and .ppt. Converted to PDF on the server, with LibreOffice, as soon as you upload them. You do not need PowerPoint.
- .key. Also with LibreOffice, on the server: you need neither Keynote nor a Mac. A .key file LibreOffice cannot open cannot be brought in; in that case, export it to PDF from Keynote and upload the PDF.
- .odp. Like the PowerPoint ones.
Each file can be up to 30 MB. If the conversion fails, Filmina tells you it could not convert it and suggests trying the PDF, instead of letting an empty one through. A damaged or password-protected file does not get in either, and it tells you so.
Scanned PDFs
If the deck is a scanned image, with no text that can be read, Mina tells you she cannot read it. There is nowhere to get what it says from, and guessing is exactly what she must not do. If you have the original deck, upload that; if not, run text recognition (OCR) on it first, with any tool that puts the text layer on top.
What gets discarded from each page
Running headers, footers, page numbers, dates and file paths. They are detected because they repeat page after page, and they are discarded so the total coverage rule does not end up explaining the footer to you.
A document is its contents
Each document is identified by what is inside the file and not by its name. Uploading the same file again opens the same document, with what was already generated and where you were, and it does not take up another slot in your plan.
Where what gets generated is kept
In your account, in the cloud: the file, the rendered pages, each slide's explanation and its audio, plus your notes, what you asked in the chats, your practice and review sessions and the summary. That is why it opens the same on any device. Slides are explained as you move forward, not the whole document at once, and each explanation is saved per voice and per level; if you add notes or material to the lecture, it gets rebuilt with them. Where those servers are and what gets stored is in In the cloud.
On Filmina Free, the first 100 slides of each document are read; on Pro, all of them. What is not a deck, such as a .docx or an EPUB book, goes in as class material.
How to delete it
With the trash icon next to the plus in Folders you pick one or more documents and delete them. Everything generated from them goes too, and their notes, if you want, stay behind as loose notes in the same folder. While the notice is on screen, you can undo it. What does not get deleted is the time you studied, which belongs to your days and not to the document.
